16th Century Three-Light Cast Bronze Sconce

No. RD14401

Wonderful very rare  late 16th century three-light cast bronze sconce featuring a composite portrait comprised of vegetables and sea food (see shrimp for a mouth).

Inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo  who, in 1562, was the court portraitist to Fedinand I at the Hapsburg court in Vienna and later to Maximillian II and his son Rudolf II at the court in Prague.  He died in 1593.
This is an amazing survivor to retain all three of the original removable candle arms and sockets (note the bearded man in the sconce arm is a Landsknecht mercenary), all in fantastic patina!
