Wonderful rare wrought iron lark spit, for roasting small birds either caught or from a dovecote.   

A Dovecote is a separate (or attached) small building with hundreds of bird holes in the exterior with a separate bird house for each pair of birds inside.

During the night the eggs and birds would be harvested when needed as a free source of protein.  They also used the dung for fertilizer.
