Regency Birdseye Maple Library Table

No. R16205

Superb Regency highly figured birdseye maple two drawer library table with amazing inlay in quite perfect condition.

This form is really quite the best - the stylized lotus leaf enclosing an anthemion at the base of the end uprights - the play of the dark rosewood moldings against the light birdseye maple - the quality of the symmetrical lacy stylized floral inlay on the real (and facade) drawer fronts - and the turned stretcher being place higher than usual to not compete with the carving and be easier to sit at.  All fit with the highest of workmanship and design.

This table also never had brass pulls and in the photo that shows the drawers open, you can see that the front edge of the drawer extends down about an inch.  In the center of the drawer blade (supports the front of the drawer) there is a scoop on the bottom, so reaching under the drawer there's room for your fingers to grab the bottom of the drawer lip to pull it open.
Most of the tables that had this feature originally have had brass added but the scoop proves the brass isn't original.

Retaining the original concealed casters in carved cups under the feet (you can just see them in the photo).

Stunning form and wood.
